NEW LANARK OPEN DAY
1st June 2009 saw the operational doors open of Tuffnells new purpose built Lanark Depot.

Tuffnells invested £2m to build Lanark Depot, which employs over 60 local people, and was officially opened during a Customer Open Day on 6th August 2009 by Scottish Member of Parliament for Clydesdale, Karen Gillon.

The build, which took 36 weeks to complete, comprises a 13,000 ft2 warehouse and sortation area accessed through 40 roller shutter doors, and includes air conditioned offices and welfare facilities on two floors. The external concrete yard covers the remaining three acres of land to allow for unloading and storage for trunking vehicles and equipment. Tuffnells also extended the highway onto the site for South Lanarkshire County Council.

During the last few years Tuffnells has invested heavily in Scotland, not only in the new build at Lanark, but has also undertaken extensive building expansion works at Perth Depot and opened an additional new depot at Lockerbie.

Chief Executive Officer, Lloyd Dunn commented “The vast majority of our Lanark Depot employees have many years of service with Tuffnells, with the majority having been with us for at least ten years and six employees achieving over 25 years service.

“This was really the deciding factor to remain and rebuild in Lanark which, logistically, would not necessarily be the first choice as the best geographical location to service central Scotland. However, I feel this shows that we live up to the slogan on the side of our vehicles and proves that we are truly ‘People Who Care’.

“We now have three major operational centres in Scotland and are fully committed to maintaining a strong presence in Scotland for many years to come. Our three very capable Scottish facilities will enable us to cater for future growth; in fact we are already looking for two additional personnel to expand our Scottish sales team. It’s a positive sign for both our business and the local community to be expanding and looking to recruit in the current economic climate.

“Each of our depots house exceptionally committed teams who ensure that Tuffnells maintain the high standard of service that our customers have become accustomed to. I’m very proud of this investment and our company achievements as a whole. Even with the severe snow conditions during February, this build has been completed on time and to a high standard. Midas Construction, commissioned for the build, certainly do seem to have that ‘Midas Touch’.”
