Nobia is Europe's leading kitchen specialist. The operation consists of developing, manufacturing and selling kitchens. Our aim is to inspire people to realise their kitchen dreams. We develop functional and attractive kitchen solutions based on our insights into modern-day consumers and solid expertise of kitchens. Our kitchens are sold under own brands and under private label.

Nobia UK is made up of; Magnet Kitchens, Interior Solutions, Gower Furniture, Rixonway Kitchens and Commodore. With six sites based in Co. Durham, West Yorkshire and Essex, Nobia UK manufactures and distributes kitchens for the retail, trade and B2B market. Nobia UK delivers to a combination of the end consumer, trade branch networks and private developers' sites across the UK using a combination of own fleet and 3PL operations.

Why Nobia UK choose Tuffnells?

Following the 'sharp exit' from the market place of Nobia's previous overnight parcels provider, Nobia needed to find a new company who had the scale and scope of operation needed to cope with circa 30,000 consignments per annum and successfully keep everything working smoothly. Tuffnells has 'local service at a national scale' and the systems in place to really 'hit the ground running'.

The majority of Nobia's deliveries are replacement parts or additional items direct to homes when their installers are fitting a kitchen.

What challenges did we face?

The chief challenge was to be able to maintain Nobia's reputation for quality and responsiveness whilst learning what makes them tick as a company, and really getting to grips with their needs as a business. This can usually be a gradual process, but the nature of the appointment meant local teams had to really pull out all the stops to make sure Nobia's transition to using Tuffnells was seamless – with no dip in service levels.

Have Tuffnells delivered?

Even after such a steep learning curve, it was important to introduce a regular monthly review programme to identify areas where continual improvement will be possible. These have proved invaluable in shaping a service which successfully balances service and price, alongside unique benefits which Nobia has identified – such as the availability of local contacts nationwide, which they much prefer over one centralised call centre.

DC Handrails & Ironwork Parts is a family-owned company based in Newcastle upon Tyne and recognised as the UK's leading supplier of wrought iron and handrail components. It has a hard-earned reputation for excellent service and extremely competitive pricing across the whole of the UK and holds massive stocks ready for next day delivery. The business is a regular feature in the North East's 50 fastest growing companies.

Why did DC Iron choose Tuffnells?

Quite simply, Tuffnells offer a service DC Handrails has struggled to find elsewhere. Many delivery companies are happy to carry small, light, uniform packages. Often DC Handrails needs outsize delivery options - with single, long poles which are difficult to handle, wrap and label. These pose problems for some carriers who decide the job is simply more trouble than it's worth. Tuffnells, however, view these as a challenge - a problem to be solved.

What challenges did we face?

The key problem to overcome was devising a way of packing and labelling oversized and awkward shaped deliveries. 3m lengths of metal can do a lot of damage if they're not handled with care - and if they're only a couple of centimetres thick, they're also difficult to barcode for effective tracking during transit. Working together with DC Handrails, a number of bespoke solutions have been developed.

Have Tuffnells delivered?

As well as delivering all the hard-to-handle items, Tuffnells also gets to grips with the hard-to-tackle service situations. Its proactive approach to reporting means if there is a problem with a delivery, DC Handrails find out about it from Tuffnells - not their client. This honest, open way of working has led to a business relationship which now dates back over 15 years.

WA Products, based in Burnham on Crouch, Essex, is a company 99.9% of the population will never have heard of unless they work in police forensics. In which case, they will probably use their products every single day of the week. WA Products supply highly specialised, ultra-sensitive forensic kits and 'scene of crime' equipment to Police Forces across the UK. This is certainly a niche field and it requires a delivery service which understands the exact needs of the client and acknowledges the business’ unique requirements.

A flawless delivery is paramount for WA Products. None of their products can be used if they are damaged or compromised in any way. Evidence could be invalidated, and countless Police hours wasted. So, every delivery and collection made by Tuffnells has to be handled with care.

Why did WA Products choose Tuffnells?

As soon as Tuffnells began its initial three-month trial period, it was clear that the attention to detail it brought to dealing with every single consignment met WA Products' standards 100%. Not only that, but accurate and dependable collection and delivery times hit all targets and Tuffnells’ technical infrastructure ensured excellent visibility at every step of the way.

Have Tuffnells delivered?

Over a year later, the senior client at WA Products is a big fan of the local service Tuffnells brings to the business relationship - singling out the service he receives over the phone from the in-house customer service team, compared to a faceless national call centre. The Tuffnells team are also strict about making sure the monthly sit-down service meetings, between key personnel from WA Products and Tuffnells, always takes place; the perfect opportunity to discuss how to make the service even better and focus on the very smallest detail if necessary.

TK Components have been supplying the kitchen and bedroom industry with a massive range of doors, accessories and components for over 25 years.

Their base is a huge purpose-built 85,000 sq. ft warehouse space and showroom in Denton, Greater Manchester. Their Tuffnells big green local team is also based at the busy Royton depot which is ideally placed to serve much of the Greater Manchester area.

Why did TK Components choose Tuffnells?

As they are a trade supplier, many TK Components' deliveries go direct to the kitchen or bedroom installation company. However, they also needed someone who could deliver to domestic addresses as part of their service.

What challenges did we face?

The quality and craftsmanship in TK Components’ products is unquestionable – they have an entire quality control unit on-site dedicated to making sure the very highest standards are maintained at all times. So it’s up to their local Tuffnells team to make sure that every item arrives in exactly the same condition as it left the factory. This is especially important when deliveries are going straight out for installation. Someone’s new kitchen is a major investment and it’s going to be their pride and joy. Damaged, scuffed and substandard doors do not match the TK Components’ company image, and homeowners would soon be very vocal about exactly what they thought of any below-par finish!

Of course, TK’s trade customers also need to be able to count on Tuffnells time-keeping 100% too. They can’t have fitters waiting around for components and causing project timetables to slip.

Quantum Profile Systems are based in Oldham, Greater Manchester. They’ve been in business for over 40 years and are still growing – manufacturing specialist building products including high performance flooring accessories such as stair nosings and PVC trims for use in commercial buildings.

It’s the type of product people who aren’t in the trade take for granted; until they’re not there, which is when work stops and the problems start.

What challenges did we face?

First of all, time is of the essence. This may seem obvious, but a missed delivery in the construction industry can be much more than frustrating. It is commercially crippling to have contractors waiting on-site for product…twiddling their thumbs. So, next day has to mean just that.

Secondly, these contractors cannot work with damaged goods. Everything has to arrive on-site pristine and ready for fitting, or again, work is delayed and expense incurred as a replacement is ordered and sent out.

Have Tuffnells delivered?

It’s a challenge which the team in Royton has risen to – delivering consistently excellent service with an emphasis on good old-fashioned customer care. This has nurtured a relationship which has been going strong for over a decade, and Quantum have already happily signed up for a further two years’ extension.
